In the end,
I was able to purchase it on Mercari through a buyer.

The Inspiration Behind Its Creation: The “007” Movie and Sean Connery
n

This car was specially built as a Bond car for the 1967 film “You Only Live Twice” (set in Japan). Initially, the plan was to use a standard coupe (with a roof), but because Sean Connery, who played James Bond, was 188 cm tall and had a large build, it proved difficult to film inside the car. As a result, only two “roadster-style” models—with the roof removed—were produced in the astonishingly short time of just two weeks.
n
n
Vehicle Features and Specifications:
n
The roof was cut away based on extremely precise calculations to ensure the beauty of the base model was not compromised.

* Sleek Design
To maintain beautiful proportions even after the roof was cut off, the ride height was lowered by approximately 25 mm, and a custom acrylic front windshield was installed. A black cover (tonneau cover) positioned behind the seats gives the appearance of a folding soft top, but in reality, no roof is stored there.

* An Engine Packed with Yamaha Technology
It is equipped with an inline-six-cylinder engine based on the M-type engine for the Toyota Crown, combined with a high-performance DOHC cylinder head developed by Yamaha Motor.
n
* Luxurious Interior
The instrument panel (dashboard) features the same wood (such as rosewood) used in Yamaha’s high-end pianos, giving it the beauty of a work of art.

*Die-Cast Model Review: A Wonderful Bonus Gift?

#Featured Die-Cast Model:

“Hachette’s Premium Collection of Famous Japanese Cars [Subscription Bonus Edition]”
Toyota 2000GT Roadster
[James Bond 007 Edition]

#Features:

*Perhaps because the “Toyota 2000GT”—which served as the prototype for this special edition Roadster—was the standout model in the series’ inaugural lineup,

the superb rendering of the body shape and
the depth of the meticulously reproduced details
really caught my eye.

Taking a closer look,
* We can see that the production and manufacturing of this die-cast model were entrusted to [Almost Real]. This company, known worldwide for manufacturing high-end luxury die-cast models, established [AR Box] as it entered the recently popular 1/64 die-cast ready-to-display market.

*This time, Hachette—a company with a proven track record in the die-cast model sector through its subscription business—chose [Almost Real] for the launch of its “high-end” premium series of 1/43-scale die-cast models.

# Strengths:

* Reproduces the dynamic body design—[even lower to the ground than a coupe]—with a height of just 2.5 cm, a detail often overlooked in other die-cast models, capturing the vehicle’s movement more vividly than the real thing

* Accurately reproduces the inward curve of the lower door panels and the inner edges of the rocker panels—a detail that was previously difficult to capture in 1/64 die-cast models

* A highly realistic reproduction of the center-lock wire wheels
* Accurate 15-inch tires and body proportions
* Precise reproduction of the front underbody (including the “cicada-face” louvers) and the rear fascia underbody

# Disappointing Points:

* The tire sidewalls lack detailing, making them look flat and somewhat underwhelming
* The position of the axle connecting the tire and wheel is slightly too high

* Mini Modification Project: Fine-tuning the ride height and stance

1: Loosen the bolts to separate the body from the chassis, the interior tub section, and the tire/wheel axle.

2: Remove the wheel (with one tire still attached) from the axle and reattach it so that the wheel position is about 4 mm wider.

3: Shave off about 3 mm of plastic from the bearing area on the chassis side. Repeat this process several times to achieve a slight forward tilt, making fine adjustments until it looks just right.

4: Paint the inside of the wheel wells black —> to make the body appear thinner.

5: Fit the top and bottom halves of the body together. Add character to the doors, hood, and front and rear fascias by applying a light wash and ink lines using a thin alcohol-based warm gray marker.

It’s already been a year and a half since I started writing design articles about various cars on this blog,
using photos I took myself.

My initial goal was to use
ready-to-display 1/64 die-cast models that wouldn’t take up much space,

but lately, the cars I’ve been choosing tend to be more niche,
so I’ve inevitably ended up acquiring more 1/43 resin and die-cast miniatures.

That’s when
I came across—on sites like Mercari and eBay—
and began acquiring and using

*Hachette
*Diagostini

and other 1/43-scale die-cast models.

n
n
For me, this subscription-based model car sales model
has two outstanding features.
n
n
n
1: By targeting a larger market than usual, they can supply high-quality die-cast models at about half the price of standard manufacturers’ products.

2: By offering a wide lineup of 100 or more models,

it leads to the production of molds for ultra-niche car models that haven’t been commonly made into die-cast models in the past, and,

which, in turn, allows for not only initial distribution but also enables manufacturers to modify the molds or upgrade the color schemes, making it possible to produce and distribute these models as standard editions over the long term.

I have high hopes
for this model car sales model going forward.

I’m looking forward to it—

Regarding this blog and its content:

My goal in writing these blog posts is to clarify my personal, distinctive criteria for evaluation—including my somewhat unconventional perspective—through my involvement with three-dimensional art (including cooking), and to document how I have satisfied and fulfilled my curiosity and desire to explore “beauty and deliciousness.”

Consequently, while I pay the utmost attention to the numbers, dates, and detailed data that appear in my articles, it is possible that I may occasionally make significant errors or misunderstandings. In particular, key specifications and dates in automotive articles can often be confusing, so I would appreciate it if you would consider them for reference only.

For my part, I feel as though I’m inserting dates and data into the articles as objective material to create a “flow” that connects my personal assessments of exterior design and taste to the broader themes explored in the latter half of the piece. What I ultimately prioritize are the new “perspectives” and “unexpected connections between pieces of information” that emerge from the chaotic jumble of memories in my own mind. The various data points are needed secondarily as part of that “flow” to generate that momentum.

As a slight digression, in the world of rakugo—which I love—there’s a playful format called “san-dai-banashi,” where a performer weaves a single story using three topics solicited on the spot from the audience. I feel like I’m doing something similar, using the characteristics of three-dimensional sculptures and (the taste of food) as my prompts. The countless ideas that flit through my mind during this process are completely unexpected and delightful; they often drastically change the content of future articles or lead to new developments.

How This Blog Works:
“Spots and Lines of Curiosity x Whimsical Mental Circuits = Unexpected New Developments”

This blog may be a bit self-indulgent, but I hope you’ll continue to follow along.

Update 2: You are free to use the photos of die-cast cars and other images (taken by me) featured in this blog post in any way you like without permission. I create these posts with the understanding that my personal creativity is a part of this world.
